Marquette Takes Down Providence, 5-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Marquette women's tennis team continued its string of wins Saturday afternoon topping Providence, 5-2, at the Providence College Tennis Courts. The win is Marquette's seventh straight, and helps it improve to 17-7 overall on the season.
The Golden Eagles won the doubles point for the ninth consecutive match. Marquette gave up only five points en route to the sweep of all three doubles positions. Christina Ruiz and Rachael Hush earned their 11th straight win at No. 1 by defeating Marisela Aviles-Duron and Maria Clara Bernardez, 8-3.
Olga Fischer and Rocio Diaz had little trouble with Courtney Burek and Bianca Sciotti and claimed an 8-0 win at No. 2, while Gillian Hush and Chelsea Utting completed the sweep for the Golden Eagles with an 8-2 win over Ayushi Sinha and Melissa Ferry at No. 3.
In singles play, Marquette made quick work of the Friars earning victories at Nos. 3-6. Utting shut out Ferry at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0, and both Rachael Hush and Diaz held their Providence counterparts to score just one point (6-0, 6-1). Gillian Hush capped MU's effort with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Sinha.
The Golden Eagles will finish off the regular season at Helfaer Tennis Stadium against DePaul (April 15) and Notre Dame (April 17).
