Women's Tennis Falls at No. 16 Notre Dame, 7-0
April 13, 2008
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - No. 16 Notre Dame proved to be too much for the Marquette women's tennis team this morning as the Fighting Irish downed the Golden Eagles, 7-0, at Eck Tennis Center. Marquette moves to 12-12 overall, 7-2 in BIG EAST play heading into the conference tournament, while the Fighting Irish improve to 18-8 overall and remain undefeated, 3-0, in BIG EAST play. "We competed well today and battled hard in a lot of matches," said head coach Jody Bronson. "The scores were not indicative of how well we battled. Notre Dame is just a very, very good team. Now, we are just looking forward to playing these teams again in the conference tournament." Notre Dame started the day by claiming all three doubles matches and never looked back to remain perfect in BIG EAST play. In singles play, Marquette never gave up but fell in all six singles matches. Freshman Rachael Hush came closest and held her own against Colleen Rielley at No. 4. In the end she fell short, 7-5, 6-3, in the final match of the morning. The Golden Eagles will play at the BIG EAST Championships this week in Tampa, Fla. Play gets underway on Thursday, April 17.
