No. 8 Marquette Falls to No. 1 Notre Dame, 4-0

TAMPA, Fla. - The no. 8 seed Marquette women's tennis team fell in the second round of the BIG EAST Championship on Friday morning, dropping a 4-0 to no. 1 seed Notre Dame on the campus of USF.
The Irish quickly earned the doubles point with two victories at No. 2 singles where sophomore Ana Pimienta and freshman Erin Gebes fell, 8-1, and the match at No. 1 singles with sophomore Ali Dawson and freshman Aina Hernandez Soler also falling, 8-1 to give ND the first point.
Hernandez Soler dropped her match at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Gebes fell in the No. 2 slot, 6-2, 6-3. Pimienta fought hard at No. 1 singles after falling in the opening set, but could not pick up a point giving ND the match-clinching victory, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
The Golden Eagles will play another match in Tampa on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT. MU will face an opponent to be determined later today.
