No. 8 Seed Marquette Blanks No. 6 Seed Rutgers, 4-0

TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 8 seed Marquette women's tennis team swept No. 6 Rutgers, 4-0, in the consolation bracket of the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday afternoon. The tournament is being held in Tampa, Fla. and is hosted by USF.
The Golden Eagles made quick work in doubles as junior Rocio Diaz and freshman Aleeza Kanner did not allow a set at No. 3 doubles winning, 8-0. At No. 2 doubles, the duo of sophomore Ana Pimienta and Erin Gebes clinched the point with an 8-3 victory.
Diaz won her singles match in the fourth slot, 6-0, 6-2, which gave MU its second point. Freshman Aina Hernandez Soler scored the next point for the Golden Eagles at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1, while classmate Laina Hernandez Soler clinched the victory with a win in the sixth slot, 7-5, 6-3.
The Golden Eagles will play its final match of the BIG EAST Championship on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT. MU will face No. 4 seed Syracuse.
