Marquette Women's Tennis Falls in BIG EAST Semis

INDIANAPOLIS- The Marquette University women's tennis team concluded its 2014-15 season after falling to No. 35 DePaul, 4-0 in the BIG EAST Tennis Championship semifinals Saturday afternoon at the West Indy Tennis Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Golden Eagles advanced to the second round of the conference tournament after sweeping Georgetown on Friday and finish the season with a record of 12-11. This was Marquette's second straight semi-final appearance.
The No. 1 overall seed Blue Demons got off to a quick start and grabbed the doubles point as junior Erin Gebes and senior Ana Pimienta fell 8-2, while senior Ali Dawson and junior Aleeza Kanner dropped their match 8-1.
Gebes and Pimienta finished the year as MU's top duo with a 12-8 record during the spring campaign.
The Blue Demons also found success in singles play and finished three matches in succession to claim the match and advance to the BIG EAST tournament finals.
Although Diana Tokar's match was left unfinished at 5-5 in the second set, the sophomore claimed the first set 6-3.
After dropping her first singles set 6-3, Pimienta battled back to tie her second set at 3-3 before the match was left unfinished.
Pimienta finished the season going 11-10 in the No. 1 singles spot, while freshman Paula Tormos Sanchez led the Golden Eagles with 15 singles wins. Pimienta finished with a career singles record of 56-48.
Gebes totaled a 13-9 singles record, which matched her 2014 team-leading mark.
The Golden Eagles finished above .500 for the 8th consecutive season.
