No. 5 Marquette Drops a 4-1 Contest to No. 4 Xavier

CAYCE, S.C.--The Marquette women's tennis team opened the BIG EAST Tournament as the No. 5 seed, but fell in the quarterfinals round to No. 4 Xavier in a 4-1 decision on Friday afternoon at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C.

The Golden Eagles (14-8) dropped the doubles point to open the match, but got on the board as Paula Tormos Sanchez won her singles match at the No. 3 position with ease, 6-3, 6-3. Courtney Hebard and Lesley Foe fought hard in their matches and Diana Tokar forced a third set at the No. 2 position, but Xavier topped Marquette to clinch the match with those wins.

The Golden Eagles will face Creighton in a consolation match on Saturday, April 29 at 3 p.m. Central time in Cayce.
