CAYCE, S.C.--The No. 5 seed Marquette women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 4 seed Georgetown on Friday afternoon in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals held at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.

Marquette (11-9) continued its consistent doubles play and earned the point with victories on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts as both Silvia Ambrosio and Erin Gebes (No. 1) and Aleeza Kanner and Leoni Daems (No. 3) each earned 7-5 victories to put the Golden Eagles on the board. Ambrosio and Gebes improved their dual season record to 12-4 with the win, while Kanner and Daems moved to a 7-3 mark this spring.

The Hoyas responded by taking singles matches on the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 courts, which put Georgetown in front, 3-1 and ensured the match would come down to the wire. It was a victory on court No. 2 that clinched the win for the Hoyas as Gebes pushed the match into a third set, but could not pull out the win, 5-7, 6-3, 1-6.

On the No. 1 court, Ambrosio dropped her first set, but rebounded with an excellent 6-3 decision in the second set, though the entire match went unfinished once Georgetown clinched the victory.

The Golden Eagles will take on Creighton on Saturday at 3 p.m. Central time in a consolation match.
