MU Completes Day One at the Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING - EAST LANSING- The Marquette University women's tennis finished day one at the Spartan Invitational Friday evening. The Golden Eagles played a pair of singles matches and one double match at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts on the campus of Michigan State University.
"I thought we fought hard today, but struggled closing out matches," said head coach Jody Bronson. "We are still sorting out our line-up and our doubles pairs. Olga and Rocio played hard and were very coachable today. We are going to fix a few things and look to improve tomorrow."
Olga Fischer, Ali Dawson, Kristina Radan, Rocio Diaz and Gillian Hush all went 1-1 in singles play in the first day of action. Fischer won her first match over Michigan State's Chernova, 6-3, 6-3, but fell in her secon match to Maria Nguyen of Michigan, 6-1, 6-4 in Draw A.
Dawson, Radan, Diaz and Hush all rebounded after losing their first match to earn wins in the second matches.
In doubles action, the duo of Fischer and Diaz defeated IPFW's Forsyth and Huck, 8-4, to advance in the winners' bracket of Draw A.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Saturday at the Spartan Invitational beginning at 8 a.m. CT. On the docket for Marquette are two doubles matches and one singles match.
