Marquette Wraps Milwaukee Tennis Classic

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women’s tennis team closed out weekend competition at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic and continued play at the Minnesota Gopher Invite on Saturday.

In Minneapolis, sophomore transfer Milica Novakovic teamed once again with sophomore Lesley Foe and the tandem opened the day with a 6-3 victory over their opponents from Iowa State before falling in a 6-2 decision to a doubles pair from Nebraska.

In singles action, Novakovic battled with Carmen Palumbo from UND and pulled out a hard-fought 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 win. She will take on Tina Kreinis from UMN on Sunday in the ninth place match.

Isabella Franks earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Sidney Brower (SDSU) and will also play in a ninth place match in her draw on Sunday.

In the Milwaukee Tennis Classic won her first singles match this weekend defeating Maryann Rompf from Wisconsin, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, but fell in her second match, 6-2, 7-5 to Stefana Andrei (LA-M).

Natalija Popovic won her consolation match due to injury from Lucy Octave from Utah State, but defeated her Iowa opponent, 6-1, 6-2.

Popovic and Eggink teamed to reach the doubles semifinal, but dropped an 8-5 decision to the doubles tandem from Arkansas, concluding play.
