Eggink and Hebard win Doubles Draw in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS--The Marquette women's tennis team opened play at the Gopher Invite hosted by the University of Minnesota on Friday and were paced by sophomore Courtney Hebard and freshman Fleur Eggink as the duo won their doubles draw.
Hebard and Eggink blanked their SDSU competitors, 6-0 in the first round and played to a 6-3 victory over Crawford and Tamblyn from Iowa.
In singles action, Paula Tormos Sanchez won her first round with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over South Dakota State, but dropped her next match in a hard fought, 4-6, 6-4, 6-10 decision.
Isabella Franks fell in her first singles match of the day, but worked her way through and will play in the consolation final of her draw after a 6-3, 6-3 win over her North Dakota opponent.
Eggink continued her success in her singles competition as she bested her SDSU opponent, 6-3, 6-1 in her first round and followed with an easy 6-3, 6-2 win over Iowa's Carin Renefelt. She will face UWM's Berta Masip in the semifinals of the draw on Saturday.
Play will continue on Saturday morning in Minneapolis.
