Women' s Tennis Completes Day Two at Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Marquette women's tennis team complete day two at the Wolverine Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan. Junior Rachael Hush, sophomores Gillian Hush and Olga Fischer, and freshman Kelly Barry each claimed singles wins for the Golden Eagles. The doubles tandem of Christina Ruiz and Rachael Hush won two matches, while senior Maggie Wilson teamed with Fischer and Gillian Hush to win a pair of matches as well.
In the Blue Draw consolation matches, Gillian Hush defeated Western Michigan's Jill Pastunink, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (2). Sister Rachael also needed a tie-breaker after dropping her first set to edge Michigan's Michelle Sulahian, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8). Barry took a 6-2 straight set victory over Remi Martin of Purdue.
Fischer was victorious in her lone match of the day in the Wolverine consolation draw. She defeated Yumi Matsuto of Western Michigan, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7).
In doubles action, the Golden Eagles' pairs were combined to win four matches. The duo of junior Christina Ruiz and Rachael Hush took down Denise Muresan and Sulahian of Michigan, 8-5, in their first match of the day and followed up with another 8-5 win over Purdue's Bhavani Tirumurti and Anna Dushkina.
Maggie Wilson paired with two different partners and came out victorious in both matches Saturday afternoon. Wilson and Fischer earned an 8-5 decision over Jessica Parr and Sydnee Bridger of Miami (OH) before teaming with Gillian Hush to take down Kay Kay Magi and Martin of Purdue, 8-5,
The Golden Eagles will complete play in Ann Arbor, Mich. Sunday at 9 a.m. CT.
