Marquette Has Success at Day Two of Wildcat Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz.--Ana Pimienta and Erin Gebes continued their doubles success with two victories as the Marquette women's tennis squad competed in the second day at the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday.

Gebes and Pimienta began the day with an 8-5 win over host school Arizona before defeating Mississippi State, 8-7 (7-1) in a long battle on the court. The duo will face a team from Arizona on Sunday in the championship of the Wildcat doubles bracket.

Ali Dawson and Aleeza Kanner earned a doubles victory in the morning with an 8-4 victory over Texas State.

In singles play, Pimienta defeated Monica Pieratt from Texas State, 6-1, 6-2 and will advance to face Jacobea Junger from San Antonio on Sunday. Gebes narrowly missed advancing in her singles match as she fell in a hard fought 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (5) decision to Jennifer Brown from Mississippi State.Diana Tokar picked up one singles win with a quick 6-1, 6-1 win over Lois Wagenvoort from UTEP.

The Golden Eagles will conclude the Wildcat Invitational with play beginning at 10 a.m. CT on Sunday morning.
