TUCSON, Ariz.--The Marquette University women’s tennis team concluded its third straight weekend of play at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational on Sunday.

It was a battle through warm and windy conditions, but the Golden Eagles came away with many matches played and will look forward to a break from competition.

"Traveling and competing together for the last three weeks has allowed us as coaches and players to see the areas we are strong in as well as the areas we can improve,” head coach Jody Bronson said. “Our growth as a team is definitely evident in the progress we are making. All the matches we have had continually help us develop individually as well as has allowed us to grow as a team. It will be nice to have some time to review match video and develop plans to continue our player development in the upcoming weeks. We have a young team with some great senior leadership this year and we are looking forward to continued success in the fall season.”

Senior duo Erin Gebes and Aleeza Kanner teamed up and opened the day with an 8-7 doubles victory over Tulane, while Silvia Ambrosio and Paula Tormos Sanchez bested Utah State, 8-2.

In singles action Gebes earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory as Diana Tokar won her match, 6-1, 6-1 over New Mexico State in the red draw. Ambrosio battled back after dropping the first set and earned a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over the host Wildcats.

Freshman Courtney Hebard and Kanner also picked up singles victories in the blue draw ad white draw, respecitively to round out the day.

Marquette will have two weeks off before returning to the court for the ITA Regionals beginning on October 22.
