Marquette Finishes Play in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz.--The Marquette University women's tennis squad finished play at the Wildcat Invitational on Sunday, hosted by the University of Arizona.

Erin Gebes and Ana Pimienta played a strong doubles match in the final main round of action on Sunday, but fell, 8-7 (7-1) to host Arizona to finish as runners-up. In the back draw of the main doubles Ali Dawson and Aleeza Kanner defeated New Mexico with an 8-2 decision.

In the back draw of singles play, Vanessa Foltinger handed UT San Antonio a 6-2, 6-4 loss, while Diana Tokar defeated UTEP in a long 6-2, 6-1, 10-2 battle. Paula Tormos Sanchez bounced back after dropping her first set and earned a victory over Colorado State, 3-6, 6-0, 10-4.

Pimienta gave up a hard fought 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 decision to UTEP, while Gebes fell to Mississippi State in extra sets, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 10-8.

The Golden Eagles will have one week off before playing at the ITA Regional beginning Friday, Oct. 17-21 in Champaign, Ill.
