Tormos and Popovic Reach Main Draw at ITA Regionals

The Marquette women's tennis team had success in both locations of tournament play on Friday as the squad competed at ITA Regionals in Ann Arbor and at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona.
Paula Tormos Sanchez and Natalija Popovic both reached the singles main draw, which will begin on Saturday. Tormos topped Eastern Illinois' Emily Pugachevsky, 6-1, 7-6, while Popovic bested Mimi Kendall-Wolsey of Toledo, 6-1, 6-3.
Tormos will take on Sara Castellano of Wisconsin and Popovic faces Mia Rabinowitz from Illinois.
In doubles Popovic and Fleur Eggink earned a tough 8-7 (4) win over Northern Illinois before falling 8-1 to the No. 1 seeded duo from Michigan.
In Arizona, Isabella Franks defeated WSU's Tomey, 6-3, 6-1 in the Blue Flight and will face Schneider from Arizona on Saturday. Franks then teamed with Tomey in a mixed doubles match and topped New Mexico, 6-3 in the Blue Flight.
Both squads of Golden Eagles continue action on Saturday morning.
