Marquette Continues USTA/ITA Regional

CHAMPAIGN, Ill.--The Marquette University women's tennis squad continued day two of the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional on Friday with two doubles victories in the doubles main draw competition.

Ali Dawson and Aleeza Kanner teamed up and defeated Friedrichs and Barcello from Eastern Michigan, 8-5, while Ana Pimienta and Erin Gebes fought to an 8-6 decision over Casati and Boone of host school, Illinois. Pimienta and Gebes had earned a first round bye in the main draw. The duo will continue play against Ohio State on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Both Pimienta and Gebes will begin competition in the singles main draw on Saturday.

Vanessa Foltinger, Diana Tokar and Paula Tormos Sanchez took the court in Rockford, Ill. for match play. Tormos Sanchez and Foltinger teamed in doubles matches besting their Northern Illinois opponent, 8-6 before falling to Green Bay in a close 8-6 battle.

Each player won their singles match for the day as Foltinger defeated her opponent from Green Bay, 6-2, 6-3, Tormos Sanchez defeated UWM, 6-3, 6-3 and Tokar made quick work of her Green Bay opponent, 6-0, 6-1.

Round three doubles in Champaign will begin at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday.
