Hush Inches Closer to ITA Main Draw

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Freshman Rachael Hush won two matches Thursday in the qualifying draw at the 2007 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships hosted by the University of to advance to the round of 16. Hush is a step closer to securing one of eight spots available for the main draw that begins on Saturday, Oct. 10.
In the opening round, Calbeto took down Detroit's Svetlana Flankova, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, and Hush dominated Xavier's Aylin Seylioglu, 6-2, 6-2.
Ruiz fell short against Kelsey Jakupcin of Bowling Green after winning the first set and playing to tie breakers in the remaining two sets, 4-6, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4).
In the round of 32, Calbeto was taken down by Michigan's Lindsey Howard in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Hush, after losing the first set 6-1, fought back and took the next two sets to defeat Western Michigan's Ashely Moccia, 1-6, 4-6, 6-4, and advance to the round of 16. Hush will play Lindsey Lonergan of Michigan State for a berth in the main draw.
The qualifying draw will wrap up tomorrow with eight players advancing to the main draw beginning on Saturday, Oct. 20. The 64-team doubles main draw will begin tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT.
