Marquette Completes Day One at the Kansas Fall Invitational

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team wrapped up day one at the Kansas Fall Invitational Friday afternoon. Singles wins highlighted the first day of action as Gillian Hush, Ali Dawson and Tina Radan were all victorious in their opening matches. '
In Draw B, Hush defeated Iowa State's Marie Chartier, 6-2, 7-5. Dawson took care of Chartier's teammate Emma Waites, 6-4, 7-5, in Draw C, and Radan's win over Madelyn Walker of Abilene Christian, 6-1, 6-2, in Draw E capped singles play.
In doubles play, MU's tandems of Rocio Diaz and Fische,and Dawson and Hush both went 1-1 on the day. Fischer and Diaz dropped their first match of the day to Iowa State's Jenna Langhors and Meghan Cassens, 8-6, but rebounded in consolation play with and 8-3 win over UMKC's Suzan Lisenby and Jillian Yakominich.
Dawson and Hush defeated Eva Dalvai and Laura Bouet of UMKC, 8-5, to advance in the championship bracket, but fell 8-4 in their second match to Kansas' Monica Pezzotti and Paulina Los. A win tomorrow would help Dawson and Hush advance to the fifth place match.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Kansas Invitational.
