Golden Eagles Winless at ITA Midwest Regionals Saturday

The Marquette women's tennis squad continued play Saturday at the 2009 ITA Midwest Regionals, hosted by Northwestern.
In singles action, freshman Kelly Barry fell to Notre Dame's Kristin Rafael, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (4). Barry advanced out of the qualifying round with a bye and two wins before falling in the main draw. Paola Calderon also fell in three to Illinois' Brianna Smutko, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.
Both doubles teams representing Marquette fell in the main draw Saturday after advancing to the quarterfinals. Juniors Rachael Hush and Christina Ruiz fell to Northwestern's Elana Chernyakova and Lauren Lui, 8-4, while sophomore Gillian Hush and senior Maggie Wilson played Michigan's Rika Tatsuno and Whitney Taney close, but could not take the win, falling 9-7.
The loss was the first of the fall season for the Hush-Ruiz duo, who now boast a 6-1 record. The pair of Hush-Wilson remains even with a 2-2 fall record.
