Golden Eagles Complete Play at Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Marquette women's tennis team completed day two of competition at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Michigan State University Saturday. Both singles main draw matches and double main draw matches were competed Saturday.
The struggles continued for the Golden Eagles as their lone singles representative in the main draw sophomore Rachael Hush lost her first match day to Purdue's Michelle Sammons, 6-1, 6-3. Hush completed play at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Lynne Poggensee-Wei of Iowa.
In doubles play, both Marquette duos lost their first matches of the day, but bounced back to win their consolation matches. The team of sophomore Christina Ruiz and freshman Paola Calderon fell to Illinois' Amy Allin and Annie McCarty, 8-1 in their first match. MU's other pair of senior Robin Metlzer and Hush also lost to their Illinois counterparts, 8-3.
Later in consolation play, Calderon and Ruiz easily took care of Bradley's Emily Regenold and Nicole Miller, 8-0, while Hush and Metzler took down Jennifer Barnes and Merel Beelen of Iowa, 8-3.
The Golden Eagles will spend the next couple of months preparing for the spring dual season, and will commence the spring season at Helfaer Tennis Stadium against UIC at 11 a.m.
