Marquette Concludes Day 1 at Memphis Invite

MEMPHIS, Tenn.--The Marquette women's tennis squad got back to work after an extended break at the Memphis Collegiate Invitational on Friday. The Golden Eagles had entries in singles and doubles and saw success with two victories in singles action.
In the pink draw of the singles round robin, junior Vanessa Foltinger defeated Chole Herdeen from Miami Ohio, 6-2, 6-0, while classmate Ana Pimienta bested Alyssa Hibberd from host school Memphis, 6-3, 6-3 in the competition's blue draw. Pimienta will be back on the court Saturday at 1 p.m. on the outdoor courts.
In doubles action, Foltinger teamed with sophomore Laia Hernandez Soler and the duo defeated the squad from Lipscomb, 8-3 in the gray draw. Pimienta and sophomore Erin Gebes fell in their doubles match in a close 8-6 battle, while Senior Rocio Diaz and junior Ali Dawson fell 8-6 to the duo from Chattanooga.
MU will begin play on Saturday morning on both indoor and outdoor courts.
