SPOKANE, Wash.--The Marquette women's tennis team opened the Gonzaga Invite with great success, earning multiple singles victories in the first day of competition in Spokane.

The Golden Eagles opened the day with singles play as Paula Tormos Sanchez topped Montana State's Laura Mary, 6-7 (8-10), 6-2, 6-1, bouncing back after dropping her first set, while Natalija Popovic also fought through to a 7-6 (7-1), 5-7, 6-4 victory.

Fleur Eggink defeated Annie Walker of Montana State, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 as Milica Novakovic earned a swift 6-2, 6-0 win.

Andrea Amortegui claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win in near straight sets and Lesley Foe bested Sara Iverson, 6-3, 6-2 completing the first day singles competition.

Marquette will continue play in Washington on Saturday.
