MU Wraps Up First Day at Bronco Super Challenge

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The duo of Erin Gebes and Silvia Ambrosio continued to shine on a successful first day for the Marquette University women's tennis team in the Bronco Super Challenge, hosted by Western Michigan. The two built on their strong doubles performance at the ITA Midwest Regional, and won their lone two matches of the day, advancing to the semifinals.

Ambrosio and Gebes will play in their semifinal match tomorrow against Reimchen and Douglas from Iowa. Reimchen and Douglas defeated Diana Tokar and Aleeza Kanner in round one of the doubles draw.

In singles play, Paula Tormos Sanchez took down Denise Azcui of Western Michigan in straight sets (6-1, 6-4), advancing to the semifinal round of Flight C, to be contested tomorrow.

Tokar, a junior, battled in her opening match of Flight B, but was unable to thwart the comeback from Kim Schmider of Illinois, falling in three sets (3-6, 6-2, 6-4).

In round robin action, Courtney Hebard defeated Carin Runefelt (Iowa), and will look to maintain her first place position tomorrow, when she takes on another Iowa product, Taylor Tamblym.

The Golden Eagles will look to build on their day one performance, when they take the court tomorrow for their respective matches.
