Golden Eagles Play at WMU Super Challenge

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Marquette women's tennis squad opened day one of the Western Michigan Super Challenge on Friday. The Golden Eagles had doubles and singles victories in the first day of competition.
Junior Rocio Diaz defeated Katherine White from Notre Dame, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (4) in the #5 dingles draw. In the #7 singles draw, Aleeza Kanner defeated her Penn State opponent in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Ali Dawson also prevailed in her singles draw, also defeating a Penn State opponent, 6-1, 6-1, in the #8 singles draw.
In double action, Dawson and Kanner teamed up to defeat Sujashvili/Aleck of host school WMU, 8-6. Also earning a doubles victory was Laia Hernandez Soler and Vanessa Foltinger defeated Nixon/Ortiz from Iowa State, 8-0, before falling to Jayawickrema/Rubenstein from Indiana, 8-1.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Saturday morning. Singles is set to begin at 9 a.m. with doubles to follow at noon.
