Marquette Caps Fall Play at Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich.--The Marquette women's tennis team concluded fall play this weekend at the Western Michigan Super Challenge. The Golden Eagles will not compete again under dual match play begins in January 2014.
In singles play, junior Ali Dawson defeated Elle Stokes of Louisville, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (5) on Friday, Nov. 8. Dawson returned to action Saturday, with another victory over her Bowling Green opponent, 6-1, 6-1, but fell on Sunday, 6-0, 6-4, to Kauss from Indiana.
Classmate Ana Pimienta fell in singles on the tournament's opening day, 6-3, 6-2, but rebounded with a victory on Saturday, Nov. 9, in a battle with an opponent from Colorado, 5-6 (4), 6-5 (0), 1-0 (8). Pimienta was bested, 6-1, 6-0 by IU on Sunday morning.
Laia Hernandez Soler defeated Ono from host school, Western Michigan, 6-5 (4), 6-3 on Saturday afternoon, and followed with a Sunday victory over Notre Dame's Roberts, 6-1, 6-0.
Pimienta and Dawson teamed up in doubles play and picked up two victories after dropping their opening matches. The dup defeated Louisville, 6-3, before beating Bowling Green with a 6-0 sweep in consolation play.
Marquette will return to the courts in 2014 at the Indiana Invitational held in Bloomington, Ind. Jan. 18-20.
