MU Returns to Action at Hoosier Invitational

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s tennis team will return to the court after almost a three-month break to compete in the Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. from Jan. 14-16.
Marquette will be part of a four-team field which includes Colorado, Abilene Christian, and host, Indiana. Round one of doubles play will begin at 10 a.m. Central time on Saturday, while singles play will begin at 11 a.m. CT.
The event will mark the Golden Eagle’s final tournament-based event during the 2016-17 regular season. To date, Paula Tormos Sanchez has led MU in singles play, tallying a 13-6 individual record, which includes a 12-4 mark from the No. 4 slot.
Sophomore Silvia Ambrosio has also helped pace the Golden Eagles from the No. 1 position, totaling a 12-7 individual record during tournament play.
In doubles action, the duo of Diana Tokar and Tormos Sanchez dominated throughout the fall schedule, recording a 9-2 mark in doubles play. The No. 1 doubles position was led by the combination of Ambrosio and Erin Gebes, who amassed an 11-4 record, including winning eight of their final 10 matches.
After the tournament, MU will prepare for a double-header on Jan. 28 which will begin at 10 a.m. CT against UIC, and conclude with in-state foe Green Bay at 5 p.m. CT. Both matches will be played at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
