Marquette Opens Dual Play at Home Saturday

MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University women's tennis begins dual play competition this weekend at against UIC on Saturday, Jan. 25. The opening serve is slated for 10 a.m. at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. This is the beginning of a four match home stretch for the Golden Eagles.
Marquette will be the first competition since fall play for the Flames. In a preseason head coaches poll conducted by the Horizon league, UIC was chosen to win its 18th-consecutive title. They enter Helfaer with six returning players, including Ann-Sophie Hahn and Veronica Lacerda who notched a victory against MU sophomores Aleeza Kanner and Laia Hernandez Soler in the flight B title match at the ITA Second Chance Regional.
Last weekend, the Marquette squad concluded a successful weekend of competition with three doubles victories at the Indiana Winter Invitational. Junior Ali Dawson and Laia Hernandez Soler swept their competition 6-0 and juniors Ana Pimienta and Vanessa Foltinger recorded a 6-1 victory.
After UIC, MU faces in-state rival Wisconsin and Valparaiso on Feb. 1 at Helfaer.
