Women's Tennis Set to Host Doubleheader

MILWAUKEE-The Marquette University women's tennis team is set to host UIC and Green Bay Saturday, Jan. 31 at Helfaer Tennis Stadium. The Golden Eagles will face the Flames at 11 a.m. Central time before taking on the Phoenix at 5 p.m.

This past weekend MU opened its season 2-0 with victories against Milwaukee (6-1) and Bradley (6-1). Senior Anna Pimienta, Vanessa Foltinger, Diana Tokar and Paula Tormos Sanchez all went undefeated in singles matches on the day. Pimienta and junior Erin Gebes clinched both wins in the No. 1 doubles slot.

UIC (0-2) fell to No. 46 Illinois (7-0) on the road in their most recent match. Senior Keti Mebuke and junior Ann-Sophie Hahn went 2-0 in doubles. Mebeke is the No.1 singles player for the Flames and is 4-4 on the season. Last season, MU claimed a 5-2 decision over UIC in Milwaukee.

Green Bay is set to open their spring season this weekend at home against Cardinal Stritch, before traveling to face the Golden Eagles on Saturday.

MU concludes their five-game home stand Friday, Feb. 6 at 4 p.m. at Helfear Tennis Stadium when the Golden Eagles face Bowling Green.
