Jan. 30, 2014

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team (1-0) returns to action Saturday, Feb. 1 as they host Wisconsin and Valparaiso in dual match play at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. First serve is slated for a 12 p.m. Central time with Valparaiso to follow at 6 p.m

Coming off a 5-2 home defeat of UIC, the Golden Eagles look to bolster their win streak this coming weekend as they continue their four-match home stand. While only surrendering five games in doubles play, Marquette cruised into singles play leading UIC.

From there, MU would win singles courts No. 1 - No. 4 to take the match. BIG EAST Player of the Week Ana Pimienta and Laia Hernandez Soler made swift work at No. 1 and No. 3 slots, defeating Mariana Palacios (6-1, 6-1) and Kathryn Sharples (6-3, 6-2) respectively.

Saturday marks the yearly matchup between in-state rivals Marquette and Wisconsin. Last season, Marquette rallied in singles play to defeat Wisconsin 4-3 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis.

Following the Wisconsin match, MU will take on Valparaiso at 6 p.m. In last season's matchup, the Golden Eagles swept the Crusaders 7-0 at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

Marquette will wrap-up its four-match home stand against Iowa State, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. CT.
