Marquette to Face Western Michigan and Iowa State

MILWAUKEE - After capturing back-to-back victories over UIC and Green Bay to start the 2012 spring season, the Marquette University women's tennis team will travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., for a pair of matches this weekend. The Golden Eagles will face Iowa State on Saturday, Feb. 4 at noon CT, before battling with Western Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. CT.
Both of MU's Matches will be played at Western Michigan's West Hills Athletic Club.
Marquette (2-0) was perfect in doubles play to open the 2011-12 dual season, as the Golden Eagles captured victories in every doubles match against the Flames and Phoenix. In singles play, seniors Olga Fischer and Gillian Hush won both of their matches at the No. 1 and 3 spots, respectively, while sophomore Rocio Diaz picked up two victories at the No. 5 and 6 positions.
Iowa State (0-1) was swept, 7-0, in its opening dual match against Minnesota on Jan. 27. Senior Marie-Christine Chartier was the only Cyclone to win a set against the Gophers, winning the opening set 6-1 at the No. 6 spot, before falling 6-2, 6-2 in the following two sets.
Western Michigan opened the season with a four-match road swing, posting a 2-2 mark in those contests. The Broncos captured victories over Detroit and Eastern Illinois, while dropping a pair of 7-0 matches against No. 10 Michigan and Indiana, respectively. Sophomore Nini Sujashvili is 2-2 this season at the No. 1 singles spot, as well as at the No. 1 doubles position with teammate Kathleen Hawkins. WMU will face Iowa State on Friday, Feb. 3, before taking on Marquette.
MU will return home to the Helfaer Tennis Stadium on Thursday, Feb. 9 to begin a six-match homestand.
