Women's Tennis Travels to Madison to Play Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE—After winning both matches in its double-header against UIC and Green Bay, the Marquette women’s tennis team heads to Madison to take on the Wisconsin Badgers at 1 p.m. Central on Saturday, Feb. 4. 

The Golden Eagles defeated UIC 6-1, scoring the doubles point and taking five out of six singles matches. Building off of this performance, Marquette continued its dominance in opening dual play by defeating Green Bay 7-0 to improve the team record to 2-0 on the season. Top pair Silvia Ambrosio and Fleur Eggink notched a 6-0 win in the match against Green Bay. Ambrosio also won her singles match out of the No. 1 slot in straight sets, with Diana Tokar finding similar success out her No. 2 position.

MU Falls to Wisconsin, 5-2
The Marquette women's tennis squad dropped its first contest of the season on Sunday, as the squad fell, 5-2, to rival Wisconsin at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Badgers come into this matchup with a 1-1 record after being blanked 7-0 by Marshall and returning the favor to Colorado State by winning 7-0 in their home opener. Wisconsin took two out of three doubles matches and won all six singles matches en route to its emphatic victory. Doubles partners Maria Avgerinos and Melissa Pick took the win out of the top doubles slot, winning 6-3. Avgerinos also won the top singles match in three hard-fought sets 7-6, 3-7, 6-0. 

Marquette comes into this matchup looking to avenge last year’s 5-2 loss at the hands of the Badgers. Following this match, the Golden Eagles head back home to take on in-city foe Milwaukee at 5 p.m. Central on  Wednesday, Feb. 8.
