Feb. 6, 2017

MILWAUKEE—After a narrow 4-3 defeat at Wisconsin, the Marquette women’s tennis team looks to rebound at home against Milwaukee at 5 p.m. Central on Feb. 5.

Golden Eagles Paula Tormos Sanchez, Fleur Eggink and Courtney Hebard won three singles matches in Madison, but the team failed to earn the doubles point and lost in a close match to the Badgers. The loss dropped Marquette’s record to 2-1 heading into this week’s action.

The Milwaukee Panthers come into the cross-town matchup with a 1-1 record after a 2-5 loss to Colorado State and defeating South Dakota State 6-1. In their first victory of the season, Labina Petrovska, Berta Masdevall Masip, Alysa Straub and Nicole Clarke all took wins in singles action. Milwaukee also swept all three doubles matches.

In the last matchup between these two teams, Marquette won in a clean 7-0 sweep. The Golden Eagles will look to continue this trend Wednesday night.

Wednesday’s match marks the first in a seven-game homestand for Marquette and the Golden Eagles will next take on Western Michigan at 5 p.m. Central on Feb. 8.
