MU to Play Three Home Matches This Weekend

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team continues its season-long six match homestand this weekend with matches against Iowa State, Western Michigan and Milwaukee. The Golden Eagles will take on the Cyclones Friday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m., and host the Broncos and Panthers on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. All matches will be played at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Golden Eagles (1-3) will be looking to rebound after a closely contested 4-3 loss to No. 71 Minnesota on Feb. 6. Kelly Barry, Olga Fischer and Chelsea Utting accounted for MU's singles points in the loss, and Fischer picked up her first win at No. 1 singles of the season.
Iowa State also with a 1-3 mark, enters the match with the Golden Eagles following a 6-1 win over Montana. Erin Karonis has played at the top of the Cyclones' line up and owns a 1-3 record at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions.
Along with MU and ISU, Western Michigan has opened the 2011 dual campaign with a 1-3 overall mark. The Broncos' lone win came over Detroit, 6-1, on Feb. 4. Maggie Remynse, the reigning MAC Player of the Week, leads the Broncos with eight singles wins, including three in dual action.
Milwaukee will be back in competition Sunday following a two-week break. The Panthers are 1-0 overall with their lone win coming over Northern Illinois, 4-3.
