No. 73 Women's Tennis Hosts Toledo and Illinois State

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis squad, ranked No. 73 in the latest ITA poll, continues its seven-match homestand this weekend at Helfaer Tennis Stadium. The Golden Eagles (6-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) will take on Toledo Friday, Feb. 13 at 5 p.m., and continue competition against Illinois State on Sunday, Feb. 15 at noon.
Following its 4-3 upset over No. 42 Louisville last Friday, the Golden Eagles jumped into the national rankings at No. 73 for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. Freshman Olga Fischer is in the midst of a five match win streak, along with senior Robin Metzler, who have each won four in a row. The doubles pairs of Metzler and freshman Paola Calderon, and freshmen Gillian Hush and Fischer, are each 3-0 in dual play.
Toledo (4-3) enters the weekend on a two match losing streak after beginning the season with four wins. The Rockets are led by Maha Guirguis who has posted a 5-0 spring record from the No. 3 singles spot. Friday's match against the Rockets will mark the first time since the 1992-93 season the two teams have played.
Illinois State (1-1) visits Marquette after being swept by No. 36 Illinois, 7-0. Hannah Esker, Tanja Hrovatic, Natalia Lech and Julia Zubkova are all 1-1 in singles play. A young team with just one senior on head coach Chris Hoover's roster, the Redbirds last faced off against the Golden Eagles during the 2006-07 season when ISU lost, 6-1.
