Marquette Women's Tennis Continues Homestand against St. John's
Feb. 16, 2017
Following a weekend split against Western Michigan and Iowa, the Marquette women’s tennis team continues its homestand against BIG EAST foe St. John’s on Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. Central time.
The Golden Eagles (4-2) edged past Western Michigan 4-3 thanks to singles wins by Silvia Ambrosio, Paula Tormos Sanchez, Fleur Eggink and Courtney Hebard. However, Marquette could not continue this success just a day later, dropping a 5-2 match to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Ambrosio and Tormos Sanchez picked up the only two points for the Golden Eagles improving to a 5-1 and 6-0 individual records, respectively.
The Red Storm have a 5-1 record and are coming off a successful weekend featuring wins against LIU Brooklyn and Hofstra. In this double-header, St. John’s did not drop one point, winning both matches in clean 7-0 sweeps. The Red Storm took the in-conference matchup last season, defeating the Golden Eagles 6-1 in New York.
After this match, Marquette has a week off before the team faces Minnesota on Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. CT.
