No. 73 Women's Tennis Opens Three-Match Road Trip at Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE - The No. 73 Marquette women's tennis team takes to the road for a three-match road trip beginning at No. 68 Wisconsin on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. The Golden Eagles will continue on to Piscataway, N.J. where they will take on Villanova on Friday at 6 p.m. CT, before facing off against Rutgers on Sunday at 8 a.m. CT.
Ranked No. 73 in the February 10 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) weekly poll, the Golden Eagles (8-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) are coming off a pair of wins over Toledo (6-1) and Illinois State (4-3) last weekend. Standout freshman Olga Fischer leads all singles players with a 9-2 overall record, and has won her last seven matches.
The Badgers (2-6) welcome Marquette to Nielsen Tennis Stadium after hosting No. 8 Duke, No. 11 North Carolina and No. 15 Miami in the ITA Team Indoor Championships last weekend. The doubles pair of senior Liz Carpenter and sophomore Angela Chupa are 3-2 on the season, and upset the No. 15-ranked doubles team in the nation on Sunday. In the two team's last meeting, Marquette fell, 5-2, to the Badgers at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
Villanova returns to action for the first time since October on Friday. Its match against the Golden Eagles will mark the first time the two teams will play in program history.
Rutgers is 3-2 overall on the season and had won three straight matches before narrowly falling to Xavier in its last time out. Sophomore Amy Zhang led all Scarlet Knights last season in total wins and singles victories, and is 3-2 overall at the No. 1 singles position. Marquette tallied two wins over Rutgers last season with one coming in the BIG EAST Tournament.
