MU Hits The Road To Take on Wisconsin

Feb. 22, 2011

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team will travel to Madison, Wis., on Wednesday, Feb. 23, to take on Wisconsin at the Nielson Tennis Stadium at 5 p.m.

Marquette (6-3) will be leaving the friendly confines of the Helfaer Tennis Stadium for the first time since its match at Indiana on Jan. 30. During the season-long six- match homestead the Golden Eagles have gone 5-1, including an upset 4-3 victory over No. 48 Iowa last Saturday. MU then went on to capture its second victory of the day by defeating Northern Illinois, 7-0, and stretched the win streak to five straight.

Sophomore Kelly Barry has played a critical role during the Golden Eagles recent string of success by capturing five victories in her last six matches at the No. 1 and 2 spots. Barry defeated NIU's Emily Rogers in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot to help the Golden Eagles capture all six singles points in the victory over the Huskies.

Wisconsin (6-2) enters the match on a success streak of its own. Like Marquette, the Badgers have beaten five of their last six opponents, including recent victories over Western Illinois and Milwaukee on Feb. 20.

UW is led by freshman Nicky Stracar, who is 5-1 at No. 1 spot in dual match play this season. Wisconsin has been perfect at home this season, claiming five wins at Nielson Tennis Stadium.

Wisconsin captured a 5-2 victory in the last meeting with the Golden Eagles during the 2009-10 campaign.
