Feb. 23, 2011
MILWAUKEE - After upsetting No. 48 Iowa on Saturday, the Marquette women's tennis team jumped into the national rankings at No. 69, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Feb. 22.
Marquette's last national ranking came during the 2008-09 season, when the Golden Eagles entered the rankings at No. 73 on Feb. 12, 2009 after upsetting No. 42 Louisville. MU fell out of the rankings on Feb. 24.
The Golden Eagles (6-3) are led by the six singles wins apiece by juniors Olga Fischer and Gillian Hush. In doubles action, seniors Rachael Hush and Christina Ruiz are 7-2 from the No. 1 position, while Gillian Hush and freshman Chelsea Utting have paired together for six doubles wins in dual play.
Of the nine matches Marquette has played this spring, four opponents have been nationally ranked.
Prior to 2009, MU had not been in the national rankings since the 1999-2000 season.
Head coach Jody Bronson's squad travels to Madison tonight to take on the Badgers at 5 p.m.
