MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team returns to action this weekend at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium when it hosts Ball State on Friday, Feb. 24 at 4 p.m., before welcoming rival Wisconsin on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m.
Marquette (6-1) fell to Western Michigan, 5-2, on Feb. 5 and since then it has reeled off three straight victories, including back-to-back wins last weekend against BIG EAST members Connecticut and West Virginia. During the stretch, MU has only surrendered one point, posting 7-0 sweeps over Milwaukee and UConn and a 6-1 victory against the Mountaineers.
Gillian Hush continued her impressive senior campaign last weekend by picking up two singles victories, extending her winning streak to six matches. The Wichita, Kan., native is 7-3 in singles matches this dual season, and is on track to reach double-digit wins for the fourth consecutive season.
Ball State (4-3) has dropped three-straight matches after winning its first four to open the season. Last time out, the Cardinals lost a 5-2 decision to Cleveland State on Feb. 17. For the opening part of the dual season, Ball State has turned to freshman Courtney Wild for consistent play. Wild has posted a 6-1 mark in singles play, seeing all the action at the No. 1 spot for the Cardinals.
Wisconsin (6-2) is wrapping up a three-match road swing when it visits Marquette. The Badgers split its contests last weekend, winning 4-3 at BYU on Feb. 18, before getting swept, 7-0, at Utah. Wisconsin captured a 6-1 victory over MU last season in Madison.
