Marquette Heads To Minneapolis For A Pair Of Matches

MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University women's tennis team is preparing for a weekend of tennis in Minneapolis with a pair of matches against Iowa State University on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. Central time and the University of Minnesota on Sunday, March 1 at 11 a.m. CT.

In their last dual-play match on Feb. 21, Marquette (7-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) defeated Western Michigan 6-1. Senior Ana Pimienta and junior Erin Gebes improved to 8-1 on the season as the No. 1 doubles duo. The Golden Eagles were dominant in all singles matches except Ali Dawson who fell (6-2, 7-6) to her opponent. Pimienta outlasted her opponent in an exciting finish (7-5, 3-6, 10-6) in the third set.

Marquette Earns a 5-2 Victory over Iowa State
The Marquette women's tennis squad (2-1) handed Iowa State a 5-2 loss on Friday evening at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

The Iowa State Cyclones are entering this weekend with a two-match losing streak following the loss (4-2) against No. 30 Oklahoma at home last Sunday. In the No. 1 singles slot sophomore Samantha Budai defeated her opponent 7-6, 7-5, 6-4 to win. Budai is 2-1 on court one on the season.

No. 70 ranked Minnesota (6-4) fell 6-1 to No. 46 Dartmouth and breezed past South Dakota State during a doubleheader last Sunday. In both matches, the Gophers doubles tandems went undefeated on the day. The Gophers are currently 4-1 at home, with their only loss to Dartmouth.

Following their trip to Minneapolis, the Golden Eagles will travel to Arizona to face Arizona State on March 10 and Grand Canyon University on March 12.
