Gillian Hush Named BIG EAST Women's Tennis Player of the Week
March 3, 2010
MILWAUKEE - Sophomore Gillian Hush was named the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Player of the Week on March 3, after an undefeated singles week. The honor is the first for a Marquette women's tennis player since joining the BIG EAST Conference in 2005.
In a 1-1 week for the Golden Eagles (8-6), the Wichita, Kan., native tallied a 2-0 record in singles play and a 1-1 record in doubles action. MU fell to Wisconsin before rallying to beat Milwaukee.
Hush defeated Wisconsin's Alaina Trgovich at the No. 6 position, 6-2, 6-4, and later recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win over Milwaukee's Kelly Fritz at No. 5 singles. Pairing with classmate Paola Calderon for the first time this season, the duo fell, 8-6, against the Badgers at No. 3 doubles. Against Milwaukee, Hush again combined with Calderon at the No. 2 doubles spot for a 8-2 victory.
The sophomore leads the team in singles wins with 11 in dual play and has 18 overall wins. The 11 wins matches her win total from the 2008-09 season.
