MU Travels to Minnesota this Weekend

MILWAUKEE - Looking to extend its winning streak to five matches, the Marquette University women's tennis team (6-3) is set to face Minnesota this Saturday, March 8 at 10 a.m. Central time at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

Marquette is 0-2 in their last two meetings against the Golden Gophers, as this will be their third match-up in four years.

Minnesota is coming off a 4-3 victory against Marquette's in-state rival Wisconsin. The match ended up being decided by at UW forfeit at the No. 3 doubles. Minnesota then clinched the doubles point and therefore the match by winning three more points in singles play.

Last time out, the Blue and Gold handled IPFW (Feb. 23) 5-2 in Fort Wayne, Ind. for their fourth straight win and sixth on the season. Vanessa Foltinger bounced back against Miloslava Shustova at the No. 4 singles slot, taking the match 1-6, 6-2, 6-0. Sophomore Erin Gebes made quick work of her opponent, defeating Sofia Sorokina 6-2, 6-0. The Denver, Colo. native grabbed the first singles point on the day and was the first to complete her match.

Up next, the Golden Eagles will travel to Las Vegas on Tuesday, March 11 when they square off against UNLV at 11 a.m. CT and Ohio State on March 14 at 11 a.m.
