Women's Tennis Opens Two-Match Road Trip Monday at Samford

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team will travel south over spring break to take on Samford and No. 37 Alabama on Monday, March 9 and Wednesday, March 11, respectively.
Marquette (11-5 overall) have faced six ranked opponents this season going 1-6 in those contests. Newcomer Olga Fischer has tallied a team-high 12 dual singles wins. Freshman Gillian Hush follows with an overall record of 11-5, 8-1 in dual action. In doubles play, Gillian has teamed with her older sister Rachel to boast a 7-2 mark. The sister duo of freshman Gillian and sophomore Rachael Hush boast a team-best 7-3 overall record.
The Golden Eagles will face Samford in Birmingham, Ala. at 2 p.m. Monday. The Bulldogs (2-5) lost six letterwinners after finishing first place and 11-1 in conference play last season. In his first season, head coach David Vest's squad opened the year with three straight losses. No Bulldog singles player enters Monday's match with a winning streak.
From Birmingham, Marquette will travel southwest to compete against No. 37 Alabama in Tuscaloosa at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The Crimson Tide (8-0) boast a winning streak that includes seven home wins this season. Freshman Taylor Lindsey (7-0) is undefeated in dual singles play, all from the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Sophomore Tiffany Welcher (14-7 overall, 5-3 dual) is ranked No. 82 nationally in singles play. The doubles pair of Welcher and freshman Courtney McLane (6-1 dual) are No. 64 in the nation, while fellow Crimson Tide duo junior Paulina Bigos and Lindsey (6-1 dual) are No. 79 in the country. You
