MU Heads to Texas for a Three-Match Road Trip

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis continues its dual campaign next week with a three-match road trip through the state of Texas.

The Golden Eagles will kick-off the trip with a noon matchup against TCU on Sunday, March 11, before heading to Houston, Tex., to take on the University of Houston and Rice on Wednesday, March 14 and Saturday, March 16, respectively. The match against the Cougars is slated for 1 p.m., while doubles play against the Owls will take place at 2 p.m.

Marquette (8-3) finished a six-match homestand on March 2, with a 5-2 victory over Rutgers to earn its fifth victory of the homestretch. After capturing the victory over the Scarlet Knights, MU fell to No. 66 Indiana, 6-1, on March 4. Senior Olga Fischer earned wins in both contests and joined teammate Gillian Hush at the 10-win plateau. Both players are 10-1 on the season.

TCU (6-3) has captured victories in three of its last four contests, including a 5-2 win over Princeton on March 3. Federica Denti has played a pivotal role in the Horned Frogs recent success, winning three-straight in singles play and seven of her last 10. In home dual matches, TCU is 5-2.

Houston (5-3) had its five-match win streak snapped on Feb. 25 when it fell at Tulane, 5-2. Senior Giorgia Pozzan is 7-1 in singles play this season, including a perfect 4-0 at the No. 1 position. Liselot Koenen and Laura Ring have helped to put the Cougars in contention for the opening doubles point this season each time the duo has paired up, winning all four of their matches this season at the No. 2 and 3 spots.

UH will host Iowa State on Monday, March 12, before it takes on Marquette.

Rice, ranked No. 27 in the latest Campbells/Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, has reeled off four consecutive victories to improve to 9-3 overall on the campaign. During the win streak, the Owls captured wins over No. 35 Oklahoma (Feb. 26) and No . 26 USF (March 4). Natalie Beazant, tabbed as the No. 59 singles player, has seen all the action at the No. 1 singles position for the Owls and is 11-1 on the campaign.



Marquette will return to the friendly confines of Helfaer Tennis Stadium on March 23, when it host Illinois State at 4 p.m.
