Women's Tennis Hosts No. 56 Western Michigan Friday

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team hosts No. 56 Western Michigan Friday afternoon at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. Doubles play will begin at 1 p.m. against the Broncos.

The Golden Eagles (12-6, 4-0 BIG EAST) look to rebound after a 1-1 trip to Alabama last week. The Golden Eagles defeated Samford 5-2, before falling to No. 16 Alabama, 7-0. The Golden Eagles have seen strong play from their rookies at the top of the singles order in Paola Calderon with a 6-10 record at No. 1 and Olga Fischer who has tallied an overall record of 13-5.

Western Michigan (13-4), meanwhile, is coming off a pair of road wins last weekend over Butler, 7-0, and Indiana State, 5-2, which improved its regular season win streak over unranked opponents to 40 matches. Friday's match in Milwaukee will mark the Broncos' fourth road match of the season. WMU has tallied a 3-2 away record this season.

Reigning MAC Player of the Year, Kerstin Pahl became the winningest player is WMU history with her win over Indiana State. Pahl boasts a five match win streak in singles play, with a 14-3 dual record, all from the No. 1 position. First Team All-MAC. Doubles partners Amanda Moccia and Pahl (9-0 overall, 8-0 dual) are currently ranked No. 59 nationally by ITA, and are in the midst of a nine match winning streak.

The teams last met early last season, as then-No. 66 Western Michigan tallied a 4-3 win over the Golden Eagles in Kalamazoo.
