MU to Face Illinois State and No. 17 Notre Dame this Weekend

MILWAUKEE - After wrapping up a four-match road swing, the Marquette University women's tennis team returns Helfaer Tennis Stadium on Friday, March 23 to face Illinois State at 4 p.m., before heading back on the road to take on No. 17 Notre Dame on Sunday, March 25 at 11 a.m. CT.
Marquette (9-5) completed its road trip by going 1-2 in the state of Texas last week. The Golden Eagles topped Houston, 4-3, but suffered a pair of 6-1 setbacks against No. 39 TCU and No. 28 Rice, respectively.
Illinois State (6-8) enters this weekend's match with Marquette having dropped three of its last four matches, including two-straight 6-1 defeats against Hawai'i and Hawaii-Pacific, respectively. The Redbirds are led by Emmie Marx, who is a combined 8-5 at the No. 2 and 3 singles position, while teammate Aniko Kiss has collected six singles wins at the No. 1 spot. ISU is 3-8 away from its home court this season.
No. 17 Notre Dame won three-straight matches over Texas Tech, Hawai'i and Wyoming last week to improve to 12-4 overall. The Fighting Irish have five players that have collected double-digit singles victories this season, including Shannon Mathews, who is 12-4 overall and 8-4 at the No. 1 position.
Notre Dame will take on Michigan on Wednesday, March 21, before hosting Marquette on Sunday.
