March 24, 2011

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis squad looks to bounce back from consecutive losses as it travels to Louisville and Cincinnati this weekend. The Golden Eagles battle conference foe Louisville on Saturday, March 26 at 11 a.m., and take on the Bearcats at 8 a.m. the next morning.

The Golden Eagles (10-6) clinched the program's fifth consecutive 10-win
season with their most recent at Rutgers on March 6. Gillian Hush boasts a
team-high 10 single wins in dual play, while the pair of seniors Rachael
Hush and Christina Ruiz have a team-high 13 dual wins in doubles action.
Gillian Hush and freshman Chelsea Utting are also in double-digit doubles
wins, combining for an 10-6 spring record.

Louisville (9-6) opened the season with five straight 7-0 sweeps before
losing four in a row. The young Cardinals team, which features no seniors
and only three juniors, have won two of the last three with wins at
Cincinnati and at Loyola Marymount. Last season, MU defeated the Cardinals,
5-2, in Milwaukee in late January.

Cincinnati (5-10) has won its last three in a row, defeating BIG EAST foes
West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Providence. The Bearcats started the season
with five consecutive losses, and dropped seven of the first eight.
Sophomore Jasmine Lee leads the team with 10 dual wins from the top two
spots. The squads last faced off in February 2006, with MU coming out on
top, 5-2.
