Golden Eagles Open Up A Three-Match Homestand
March 31, 2011
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team will be back in action this weekend as it returns home from a six-match road swing to face Chicago State, IUPUI and Illinois State on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3 at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Golden Eagles take on Chicago State on Saturday at 11 a.m. and face IUPUI at 5 p.m. before wrapping up the three-match homestand with Illinois State on Sunday at noon.
Marquette (11-7) snapped a three-match losing skid by defeating Cincinnati, 4-3, on March 27 to finish even, 3-3, on the six-match road trip. Senior doubles partners Rachael Hush and Christina Ruiz will look to continue their dominance at the No. 1 spot. The duo has put the Golden Eagles in a spot to capture the crucial doubles point several times this spring by posting a 15-3 mark in dual match play.
Chicago State (5-12) is currently riding a three-match winning streak, which includes a victory over IUPUI on March 13. The Cougars are lead by senior Dian Mayasari who finished the 2010 campaign at 11-4 in the No. 1 singles spot.
IUPUI (3-17) has won two of its last three matches, including a, 7-0, straight set victory over Marian on March 30. Sophomore Vanessa Whyte has won six straight singles matches for Jaguars at No. 2 and 3 singles.
Illinois State (5-6) enters this weekend's match after defeating Missouri Valley Conference opponent, Bradley, 6-2 on March 25. The Redbirds are 3-4 in away matches this spring.
The Golden Eagles will look to improve on their seven-match home winning streak as they return to the friendly confines of the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
