Marquette Battles Creighton and University of Nebraska-Omaha in Weekend Action
April 6, 2017
MILWAUKEE—The Marquette women’s tennis team continues its road trip with a BIG EAST showdown at Creighton on April 8 at 1 p.m. Central time and a match against the University of Nebraska-Omaha April 9 at 11 a.m. CT.
These matches follow a successful weekend where the Golden Eagles downed the Butler Bulldogs and the Indiana Hoosiers on their home courts to improve their record to 10-5. Paula Tormos Sanchez was recognized for her efforts in helping clinch the win over the Hoosiers with BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.
Creighton has not been in action since March 25, when the Jays dropped a 3-4 match to Colorado State, pushing their record to 11-7. Their most recent loss snapped a previous six-game winning streak. Last season, Marquette won both matchups, taking the regular season match 6-1 and blanking the Jays 4-0 in BIG EAST tournament play.
The University of Nebraska-Omaha has a 6-11 overall record, but has emerged victorious in its past two matches against South Dakota State and Oral Roberts. The Mavericks have a 3-2 home record and will face Marquette Sunday after traveling to Western Illinois on Friday evening.
Following this pair of matches, the Golden Eagles will stay on the road to take on the College of Charleston April 13 at 1 p.m. CT and South Carolina State April 15 before heading home for their last two matches of the regular season.
