Golden Eagles Fall 5-2 to Stetson
April 7, 2007 DeLand, Fla. - After losing the doubles point, the Marquette women's tennis team was unable to bounce back and saw its five-match win streak snapped at Stetson, 5-2, at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 11-11 overall. The no. 2 doubles duo of junior Shannon Brown and sophomore Robin Metzler's win was Marquette's lone doubles win of the afternoon. They teamed to take down Stetson's Catherine Canady and Valentina Galbarini, 8-5. In singles play, the Hats took the first four matches to secure the 5-2 win. Brown continued her winning ways at no. 4 singles and defeated Canady after losing the first set, 6-2. Brown won her 11th straight match of the season taking the second set, 6-3, and the tie-breaker 10-3. Freshman Elly Strother saw action at no. 6 singles and improved to 5-4 for the spring by defeating Samantha Lange, 6-2, 6-2. Marquette will travel to Orlando, Fla., to battle Central Florida on Easter Sunday at 11 a.m. EDT.
